The Next Step

I received notice from both of my internship opportunities and they both were a big fat NO! Right now I only have about three weeks of school left and then graduation. From their I will go home to MN and start the job search once again. Only the Lord knows where I’ll end up.

In the meantime I have been busy writing my Sr. Paper on the film Saving Private Ryan and the behavior of men from WWII up until today. It was a good 27 pager and a lot of hard work. I you would like to read it, send me an Email.

Internship Update

I had a phone interview for the Republican National Convention this evening. It caught me by surprise! I think it went ok. If I was more prepared it would have helped. I find out if I get the internship April 15. We shall see what happens.

Spiritual Renewal Week & Other Information

It has been awhile since I’ve written anything. So here’s what I’ve been up to.

Spiritual Renewal Week:

A few weeks ago we had our spiritual renewal week. Generally they bring in good expository preachers to come talk to us during regular chapels as well as night time speaking engagements. This spring we had Dr. Erik Thoennes, the professor of theology at the Talbot school, in La Mirada, CA. He spoke four times when he was here on a series entitled “Pursuing a Passion for Christ.” He was very engaging and a wonderful speaker of the gospel and of the wrath of God. Which is something that I think this campus misses from time to time. I had some time to spend with Erik and discuss with him things going on in the church and how it is affecting my generation. As well as how we each grew up and where we were from and family. So we struck a chord and spoke for a good three hours. He was a big encouragement to me especially as I lead my small group which can be very frustrating. If you would like to listen to his sermons click here.

School/Summer/Job Search:

Things have been very busy with projects and papers . Needless to say I am more than ready for spring break and ready to get out of Upland. I haven’t made very much progress with finding jobs in Seattle. I have come across an opportunity to do an internship with the Republican National Convention this summer in Minnesota. It would be unpaid but it would give me some thing to do in the summer months while I look for job opportunities in Seattle.

Humility in Badminton

This semester I am taking Badminton, yes the outdoor game. Easy class right? Well, if you spoke with the professor I think he would tell you other wise. Considering he told the class what the world record was for fastest shot off the face of a racket (205mph). So, late 40s early 50s year old professor is pretty intense and could easily beat any one in the class… handily.

As I was scoping out my competition for the tournament at the end of the year I figured I could do pretty well and maybe win. Well that doesn’t look so promising any more considering I almost lost to a girl twice. Get off your high badminton horse Mr. Linder!

Super Tuesday & A Bomb in the GOP

Super Tuesday showed, for the GOP, that John McCain is leading the pack with more than half of the delagets needed for the nomination. There has been questions about John McCain and his record. He has been hit hard in the media by notable conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter who have said they would vote for Clinton than McCain, if McCain wins the nomination. He is a conservative but many have questioned him because he has reached across the aisle to get something done. He has been severally criticized for voting against the Bush tax cuts and giving illegal aliens a chance at citizenship. On major GOP issues such as the war in Iraq and abortion, McCain has been strong. The major problem many have seen with McCain is that he appeals to conservatives with what he says but he has gone against the republican party on two major issues if not more. This is the biggest problem for McCain The challenge for McCain will be if he will be able to bring the conservative party together and stay with conservative issues.

With McCain’s large lead Mitt Romney has dropped out today. Many believed Romney was the most conservative candidate in the race and has strong credentials in business and good ideas on the economy. What may have hurt him is his Mormon faith because some on the Christian right could not handle a “cult” religion in office. I do not agree with Mormonism in any way but Romney stood on some Christian values/principles and he would keep freedom of religion and faith based organizations. I think Romney appeals more to conservatives the McCain does, but we’ll see how McCain does over the next nine months. It probably wasn’t a wise choice for Romney to quit the race.

I Touched Bono

Last night, Saturday, I went and saw U2 3D. I have never seen a 3D movie and I have never been to an IMAX theater before. So, this was a new experience and a new experience it was. After I paid my $14 I went into the theater to see the greatest band ever. This is one of the most unique things I have ever seen. You actually feel like you are on stage with the band and in the audience, its very cool and worth seen, if you can. The amount of detail and cinematography is amazing and something I think could become the next best thing in movies. If someone wasn’t able to see them in concert this would be the next best thing. In a sense I touched Bono, you can’t get much better than that.

The Beginning of The End

The Start of Spring Semester:

It has finally come. My final college semester! I thought this semester would be easier than my last few because of classes like badminton, soccer, and the all important pickle ball. I do have some real classes to finish up my minor in Public Relations. Those classes have no tests or quizzes but a lot of papers and and one major PR project. Besides that I have my senior paper at a grand total of 30 pages. All in all not too much work. In addition to class I have decided to take on a project to gain more experience in the PR field. I will be working with the TU theater department to put together the 100th year celebration at homecoming next year. It will involve putting together a media kit with brochures, invites, letters and creating the entire weekend for the event. I will probably end up forming a team, of my choosing, to work with and end up with a quality product. I am looking forward to this opportunity and we’ll see what I can do.

Job Search:

On the job front I have my resume almost complete and right now I am working on a cover letter. My hope is to find something in Seattle, WA with a PR company. Why Seattle? First, I’ve never been there and I think it would be an interesting place to work and to start new. There are also many young people there and it is a growing and vibrant city. Why won’t I be in MN or IN? I love MN, but it is time to move on and seek new friends and new opportunities, if I would go back I feel I would end up doing the same things I was doing before and having the same friends and not growing in manliness, which makes life boring. And why not IN? Well, its the armpit of America and armpits stink, who wants that? Not this guy. Some people think its crazy to go some place where you don’t know any one, but I believe there is more to learn when you take a little bit of a risk.

Sports:

Santana is gone from the Twins. I think he’ll be well off with his $150 million contract. I have come to the right conclusion that MN is the minor leagues for the NY and Boston sports programs.

Super Bowl Prediction = NE 41 NYG 20 (Thanks for trying Eli, you can go cry and pout after the game)

Politics:

I’ll wait till Super Tuesday to say something.
